On the way back up to Peace River, hub opted to take 27 back in lieu of 41. We saw lots of cane fields, and burning cane fields. After dealing with Pacific Northwest fires all summer, it was very sad to have to drive that way seeing the haze in the sky and the smell of burning. Eventually we turned onto 66, which is the highway we take to go play disc golf at the YMCA.

We left Peace River bright and early in the morning. I chose driving along 41 through the Everglades. It was an uneventful three and a half hours. Our arrival was much more interesting than the drive. This resort is actually almost 100% mobile homes. At first Peace River looks like a sleepy campground, which it is, compared to Orlando. But after a week at each Florida resort I am surprised at which one wins for us. Drum roll....... Peace River! And yes, the pictured signs are all along the river's edge...good thing we are not overly scared of either, cautious yes, but more curious than anything, and no we didn't see either one!

I am so happy with our decision to stay at the Orlando Thousand Trails. We are already scheduled to be here in November, but we needed a place to escape from Hurricane Michael and this was the furthest south and east we could get in our driving window of four to six hours. We are in a lovely HUGE campground that is by far the nicest of the Thousand Trails we've been to. I have some video footage to process for another day... It is very close to all the amusement parks, you can watch the fireworks at...
We had to alter our plans to avoid tropical storm Michael. Instead of stopping over for a night in Georgia, we are going to make a run for Orlando which is outside Michael's path. Our trek today will be 6 1/2 hours, but we are game to gitter done and be settled in for the storm.

We made it to our next stopping point, a three night break from driving in Tennessee. It ends up being only two days of rest, but we really needed it. The Cherokee Landing Thousand Trails is a throw back to another time. Most of the sites are overgrown and way too small and unlevel for any rigs folks drive today. Our drive along the east side of the Ozarks was a little bit more hilly, twisty and windy. So, I warned Hub to expect most of our trek the next day to be a repeat. I was wrong with that assessment. We were so far east that our drive started out steep and twisty but quickly turned into rolling hills. It is so beautiful in Arkansas, something I was not expecting.
