The day I made this was an ink messy day! Libby and I made some backgrounds using the new Pigment Sprinkles watercolor crystals. The sprinkles are so fun to work with.

I should note here that a few sprinkles really go a long ways and, I did what is called a wet application, I wet the watercolor paper by spritzing with no crystals first then I added the crystals followed by more spritzing.

I wanted to create an edge where the crystals are barely wet.
How I achieved that is by spritzing sideways from the left side angled toward the right. The right edge really shows the variation of color in the crystals.

I used the aquapainter minimally, swirling the water and crystals together on the left side then dabbed the extra wet off with a paper towel. I wanted the area outside of the embossed images to be lighter green.

To speed up the process I dried the initial layer with a heat tool. Next, I worked the seahorse and shells with the darkest color I could make to bring out the heat embossed images. This took at many layers to get the final effect I had in mind.

Watercoloring takes time to get just right. Be ready to practice patience. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have watercolor paper. You cannot use cardstock for this process, it will ruin even thick cardstock very quickly.

Libby made one as well that came out fabulous. She used the Gorgeous Grape sprinkles.

I kept the finished card pretty simple, trimming the focal layer to 3 1/2 x 4 3/4, matting with a very thin line of Basic Black.
