| Review - RV Covers - Update 5/19/2006 |
 I had just purchased my RV. After my purchase I started noticing the RVs in my neighborhood. It was September when I brought the motorhome to my house. By late October I had used the RV four times and was ready to button it up for winter. I noticed as I drove through the neighborhood that most of the nicer motorhomes had been bundled up under a cover if they didn't already live under a permanent cover. I called around to a couple of RV places and asked my RV owner friends what they thought. Here is what I was told. Absolutely do NOT use a tarp. It doesnt breath and will scratch up the sides as it moves in the wind. Second bit of advice was that when folks didn't cover their RV it got all slimy and mossy over the winter (we live in the Pacific Northwest) and it is a pain to clean up in the spring. So then I asked specifically which covers were best. Of course I was told that the longer the Warranty on them the better they are, but of course the more expensive too. I looked at the SFS Aquashed covers. They have a 2 year warranty, but were designed for wet climates. I put that particular cover on my Christmas list and the family all contributed to it. I was thrilled to get it the end of December. It came with Free tire covers too. The first dry day came and we unboxed the cover. I will forewarn you they are HUGE. and as you unfold them they just get bigger(keep in mind mine is the smallest they sell). It worked well to have one person on the roof and another on the ground to get it laying nicely. Then we strapped it down. The last nice thing to note about this cover is that it has zippers for easy access to the doors while the cover is on. Camping world has a more complete article on covering your RV. You might be thinking ok, if this cover is so big, where do you store it when not in use? We rolled ours up tight (ensuring it was bone dry). Tried to stuff it in the sack that it came with, but of course it didnt fit all the way, and put it up in the attic with the Christmas Ornaments:) Update 5/19/2006 - Used our cover for another winter, so it has been used two full winters. The cover is as good as new. I see no wear whatsoever. The Motorhome stayed clean. I will say that on the sides, the breathable fabric allows wetness to go through it to the the walls, but it does not harm or make the RV dirty. I rolled it back up and placed it in the attic next to the Christmas Ornaments again:) |
