February 2019 - Stampin' Dreams Blog Hop - Birthday

Welcome to the Stampin' Dreams blog hop! The theme this month is Birthday. I have been diligent at sending family and friends birthday cards so I always need birthday inspiration. The Stampin' Dreams team of demonstrators is the perfect place to be inspired and I cannot wait to hop around and see everyone's creations.

I have four birthday cards to send in February so I am glad this is one of the themes! I chose to make my uncles birthday card using the stamp set "Piece Of Cake". I did not purchase the punch as they do not fit well in my trailer.

I do use an electronic cutter which these stamps are perfect for and I had a bunch of cakes cut and ready for coloring. The three cake images below go together nicely for a masculine card which is perfect for my uncle. 

The cakes were colored with Blends using the following colors:

• Soft Sea Foam light and dark
• Mango Melody light
• Night of Navy light.

Layering squares made perfect backgrounds to adhere the cake to. I alternated Night Of Navy and Blueberry Bushel cardstock. Stampin' Up! has scaled the scallops perfectly for a very small "inchie" sized square. I used dimensionals to pop the cakes up for added interest.

This card is all about layers. Here's how the rest of the layers stacked:

• The focal background: Horizontal Soft Sea Foam embossed using the Dot To Dot Textured Impressions Embossing Folder cut horizontally at 2 1/4" wide. 
• Thin mat: Mango Melody cut so that a bit over 1/16" of it showed top and bottom.
• Bottom Mat: Blueberry Bushel layer of this strip was trimmed down using the Be Mine Stitched scalloped border die.
• Background: Night of Navy dry embossed with the subtle folder lengthwise finishes the project.

The card front was applied to a Whisper White thick base, and I stamped the happy birthday cake on the flap and back of the envelope.
